Cold and Hot Scent Throw Guide
Not all fragrances act the same in a candle, and not all affect the sense of smell the same way. Some are strong, others are more subdued. While the fragrances we use are of the highest quality with fantastic scents and most of our candles have a very powerful scent throw, some do not-that’s just the way some fragrances hit! Preferences differ as well, as some prefer a stronger hot throw while others prefer a subtle throw. Hopefully this will help you in choosing a candle matching your preference.
The scent throw rankings we are putting into place is meant to give you a general idea of the strength of each of our candles. As the cold throw is generally your first take on a candle (unless it’s burning in someone else’s home when you walk in), the scent throw will be ranked with the cold throw first, followed by the hot throw, i.e. 2/3 being a 2 cold throw and 3 hot throw, etc. This information will be added to the description of each candle. The two rankings tend to correlate, but not always.
Here is how we rank the throw:
Cold throw:
- 1-light, almost imperceptible cold throw. An example is the Freshly Mowed Lawn
- 2-moderate cold throw. An example is The Cathedral/The Chapel
- 3-strong cold throw. This is the majority of our candles. Examples include Whipped Limon, The Burning Bush/The Maidservant’s Fire, and Pineapple Coast.
Hot Throw:
- 1-light hot throw. An example is The Professor. These candles with a 1 hot throw are still very appealing. They are best in smaller spaces, like a bathroom or bedroom.
- 2-moderate hot throw. An example is The Wood Shop. It doesn’t light up an entire house, but even in an open floor plan, if you walk by you definitely notice it.
- 3-strong hot throw. Again, this is the majority of our candles. Examples are Whipped Limon, Fresh Baked Apple Pie, and Time for Reflection. A candle with this level hot throw will permeate an entire house with the fragrance of your choice.
We are really hoping you make use of this scent throw ranking when choosing your candles. We want you to have the best fragrance experience possible!
Over time, we will be listing each candle here with its corresponding cold/hot scent throw. This will be a convenient way to browse candles by scent throw strength if you want to see them organized in that way.
